Information Tagged Video Proposal
I am proposing to report on the event Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas: Art as Resistance for my information tagged video assignment. This event is newsworthy for many reasons. First, it is part of the Kaleidoscope Arts Festival at Slippery Rock University. This festival is an annual event in its 18th year at SRU and takes place over two weeks from April 11-27. It is held to showcase the best art Slippery Rock has to offer along with renowned international and national artists. Another reason this will be newsworthy is that specific event will be hosting Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas. Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas is an award winning visual contemporary Haida artist, author, and professional speaker. His works have been shown at venues across the globe including the British Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Seattle Art Museum, and the Vancouver International Airport. Additionally, this event is being co-sponsored by The Native American Study Series, the College of Liberal Arts, Kaleidoscope Arts Festival, English Department, and the Philosophy Department. So, this event will definitely cover a wide array of people and interests. I hope to be able to contact Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas for a statement about his work if possible. Along with the artist, I can speak to the heads of departments, someone in charge of the festival, and fellow students. This story can be told using an information tagged video because not everyone will know all the details about the artist and his work, along with the cultural background behind it. This gives plenty of opportunity to expand into more detail about the subjects in the video.
